Lake Region State College has started a textbook scholarship for area students attending the Devils Lake-based college.

The Community College Foundation that supports LRSC made the Textbook Scholarship a reality, the school said in a press release. Lake Region administration and staff wanted to help students with often expensive book costs. The administration did not want to see students taking a year off due to that financial burden.

Area students from qualifying communities who enroll as a full-time degree-seeking student may be eligible for the $500 Bookstore Buck award.

The award spans over the fall and spring semester of the 2020-21 academic year with $250 to purchase books and supplies at LRSC Bookstore fall 2020 and $250 spring 2021.

Students must have graduated from high school in the Lake Region from 2017-2020, defined as the following schools/communities: Carrington, Cavalier, Dakota Prairie, Devils Lake, Dunseith, Edmore, Fessenden-Bowdon, Fordville-Lankin, Four Winds, Grafton, Griggs County, Harvey, Lakota, Langdon, Larimore, Leeds, Maddock, Midkota, Midway, Minnewaukan, Munich, New Rockford-Sheyenne, North Star, North Border-Pembina, North Border-Walhalla, Park River, Rolette, Rolla, Rugby, Starkweather, St. John, Turtle Mountain, Valley-Edinburg and Warwick.
