Lake Region State College will celebrate the expansion of its nursing program in Grand Forks with an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Jan. 29.
The number of students enrolled in the program in Grand Forks has more than doubled since it began in 2014. Lake Region State College, based in Devils Lake, leases the space at 1425 South Columbia Road from Achieve Therapy and Fitness.
In 2014, there were eight students enrolled in the licensed practical nursing program in Grand Forks. In the fall of 2019, 17 students enrolled in the LPN program.
Meanwhile, in 2018, Lake Region State College added an associate degree in registered nursing program at the Grand Forks location. Sixteen students enrolled in the RN program last fall, which brings the total number of students in Grand Forks for the 2019-2020 academic year to 33.
The additional space was added to the LRSC location at 1425 South Columbia Road to accommodate the increase in nursing students, said Erin Wood, LRSC director of college relations. The expansion, which increases the LRSC space by about 40% is made up of another classroom and additional laboratory space that includes an observation room.
The college's nursing programs are part of the Dakota Nursing Program, which utilizes technology to teach the students, Wood said. The program in Grand Forks also has full-time faculty on site.
The open house and ribbon cutting will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
