It's On Us: UND chapter pledges to stop sexual violence
GRAND FORKS - A group at UND is doing their part to stop sexual violence.
It's Fall Action Week for UND's It's On Us chapter.
The group works to inform students about topics like sexual assault and consent.
On Tuesday, the group held a pledge drive, where they are passing out cookies and encouraging students to sign pledges.
They hope taking the pledge will help students understand some misconceptions about sexual violence and consent.
"I didn't feel like I had the ability to say no or to leave, like I had the ability to choose to walk out. So because of that, I didn't necessarily consent to what happened to me, but I was unable to say no, and not being able to say no is the same thing as not being able to say yes,” UND Freshman Alden Brookens said.
According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, One in 5 women and one in 16 men are sexually assaulted while in college and 90 percent of those assaults go unreported.
