Applications open for two positions on ND Board of Higher Education

BISMARCK -- State Superintendent Kirsten Baesler is encouraging North Dakotans to apply for two openings on the State Board of Higher Education.

The positions carry four-year terms that start July 1, which is when the terms of incumbent board members Kevin Melicher and Mike Ness end.

Eight voting members make up the Board of Higher Education, which governs the North Dakota University System's 11 public colleges and universities.

Baesler is the chairwoman of the committee that submits nominations for the board. She and committee members will forward their nominations to Gov. Doug Burgum, who will appoint the two members. The governor’s choices are subject to confirmation by the North Dakota Senate.

"I would encourage everyone who has an idea or a belief that they can make a difference in shaping our higher education system to apply," Baesler said.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. April 2. For more information, visit
