FARGO — The Fargo Police Department said Monday, June 14, that it has identified a suspect in the vandalism of a statue outside of St. Mary’s Cathedral, at 604 Broadway N., on April 17 and forwarded the case to the City Attorney’s Office for consideration of charges.

The statement released by the police department said the suspect will not be identified at this time since they have not been arrested yet.

Police earlier stated they had spoken with a suspect potentially connected to the spray-painting of a Jesus statue on display in front of a downtown Catholic church.

Video released by the police department shows a hooded individual walk up to the white marble statue shortly before 3:30 a.m. April 17. The person spray-paints the face of the statue before fleeing.

The statue has since been cleaned.
