A Grand Forks middle school student suffered a stab wound during an altercation Tuesday on the city's north end.

The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. near West Elementary School, according to a news release by the Grand Forks Police Department. The school has been closed all year due to maintenance and infrastructure issues and the students who normally would attend West are being bused elsewhere.

According to the report from the GFPD, upon arrival, police found a juvenile in nearby University Park who had suffered at least one stab wound. The boy said another known male had stabbed him.

The victim was transported by ambulance to Altru Hospital. The suspect -- also a juvenile -- was located at a nearby residence. Police say the investigation continues and there is no threat to the public.

Police urge anyone with information to call the Grand Forks Police Department at 701-787-8000.
