Two people were arrested after a police chase that ended with the suspect vehicle striking a police cruiser.

Grand Forks police were dispatched to the Walmart on 32nd Avenue around 10 p.m. Sunday, March 14, for a report of a theft in progress, according to a release from the Grand Forks Police Department. A witness followed the suspect vehicle until officers located it at Stamart on North 47th Street.

When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, it drove through a red light and fled westbound on Highway 2, according to the release. Officers pursued the vehicle with emergency equipment activated. While traveling westbound on Highway 2, the suspect vehicle attempted to run officers off the road, police say.

The chase ended when the vehicle turned around on Highway 2 to head eastbound and struck a marked patrol unit and became disabled.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Rani Howard. She was arrested for fleeing, reckless endangerment, driving under suspension and multiple active warrants. Her passenger, Isaiah Wise Spirit, was charged with false information to law enforcement and drug-related offenses. Charges for theft are pending for both, according to the release.
