Man facing charges for beating sleeping man with iron, bar stool

A Grand Forks man is facing aggravated assault charges for allegedly hitting a man with a clothes iron and barstool.

Eric Jon Ambuehl, 48, could spend five years in prison if convicted.

Court documents say he went into the room of a man he knows and began attacking the sleeping man around midnight Sunday. The man allegedly woke up to Ambuehl beating him with his hands, a clothes iron and a wooden bar stool.

Police said there was blood all over the man's room, including his bed, floor, walls, laundry basket and on the broken clothes iron and broken bar stool. Ambuehl was found a block away with dried blood on his hands, court documents said.

He is scheduled to enter a plea Friday.
