Woman sentenced for breaking into man's Crookston home

Amy Clausen

CROOKSTON—A woman will avoid further jail time for forcing her way into the Crookston home of a man who previously took her in.

Amy Sue Clausen, 43, was sentenced Thursday in Polk County District Court to 180 days at the Tri-County Community Corrections Center for a first-degree felony count of burglary, but she received 696 days credit for time served. She will be on probation for four years, according to the judgement.

Four other charges filed against Clausen on Nov. 17, 2016, including an additional count of first-degree burglary and felony theft, were dismissed.

The criminal case was brought against the woman after a man said he allowed Clausen, who was homeless at the time, to stay at his home briefly several months before the incident. In mid-November, Clausen forced her way into the man's home, threatened him and demanded medication from him, according to court documents.
