Child offender arrested for not registering in Grand Forks
A homeless man was charged Wednesday for failing to update his child offender registration.
Daniel Jason Ward, 35, was convicted of two counts of child abuse in 2011 and is required to register as a child offender until 2027, court records said.
Ward allegedly hit a 9-month-old baby and a 3-year-old child in the head and face, according to court records. Both children suffered injuries, including swelling or bruising, said an affidavit for his arrest.
Ward told police he's homeless and has been living in Grand Forks for several months. The law requires homeless child offenders to register with law enforcement every three days and upon arrival in a new town, court records said.
Ward is currently incarcerated and expected to enter a plea Oct. 17.
