Onamia man shot to death; investigators seek help in locating suspect's vehicle

The Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 34-year-old Onamia man, who died of an apparent gunshot wound to the torso.

ONAMIA, Minn.—A 34-year-old Onamia man was shot to death with investigators trying to track down a car seen near the crime scene.

Mille Lacs County Sheriff Brent C. Lindgren reported the sheriff's office received a 911 call at 12:42 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, reporting a person was shot outside a house in Onamia, about 40 miles southeast of Brainerd.

The victim was identified as Benjamin Charles Blake Jr. The preliminary results of an autopsy said Blake died from a gunshot wound to the torso and ruled the death a homicide, a news release stated. The final results of the autopsy are pending at this time.

Investigators were seeking the public's help to identify a vehicle of interest in the case. The vehicle is described as a 1999-2004 four-door Oldsmobile Alero, gold or tan in color, with possible damage to the front of the hood above the passenger's side headlight. A vehicle matching this description was observed in the area where Blake was found.
