BISMARCK-A Lyft driver has been charged with sexually assaulting a female passenger Saturday, Aug. 25. Corey Michael Wickham, 39, of Mandan, was arrested Monday after the victim reported the assault to Bismarck police.
The woman told police she took a Lyft ride from a Mandan bar and was dropped off at her home in Bismarck shortly after 1 p.m. The woman identified Wickham as the driver.
The woman told police when Wickham dropped her off, she began to open the vehicle door and Wickham reached over and grabbed her right arm, stopping her. He then began to kiss her on her mouth and sexually assaulted her, according to the affidavit.
The assault last about 10 to 15 minutes, during which the woman said she attempted to get out of the vehicle but was unable, the affidavit said. She eventually was able to get out and went inside her residence.
The next morning, the woman saw the underwear she wore during the alleged assault was "covered in blood," which a detective was able to confirm. The woman was taken to the hospital for a sexual assault examination.
Lyft spokeswoman Kate Margolis said in a statement the company has been in communication with police and is willing to assist with the investigation.
"These allegations are horrific," Margolis said. "We have reached out to the passenger to extend our full support and assistance and permanently banned the driver as soon as we received this information."
Wickham has been charged with two felony counts of gross sexual imposition. He had an initial appearance Monday, and he is being held at the Burleigh-Morton County Detention Center on a $500,000 bond.
