BRAINERD, Minn.—A student, who reportedly was making verbal threats to commit a shooting at Brainerd High School, was taken into custody Wednesday night.

Brainerd Police Chief Corky McQuiston stated police officers reacted immediately and quickly identified the 16-year-old boy. The student was found about 11 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, and arrested without incident.

"Because this matter involves a juvenile, no other information is available at this time," McQuiston stated in a news release. "Authorities have no reason to believe that any others were involved with this threat."

In a phone interview Thursday, McQuiston said he is unable to report where the student was found, who he made the threat to or where the teen currently is being held because the incident involves a juvenile. At 1:16 p.m. Thursday, the Brainerd School District sent out an email to parents of students forwarding the police department's release and in some cases sent a voice message reading the news release.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call the Brainerd Police Department at 218-829-2805.

"The Brainerd Police Department wants to remind all students and parents regarding the seriousness of making any type of threats about our schools. All reports like this will be investigated and requested to be prosecuted," the news release stated.
