The officers got out of the car and walked around the area to search for the woman, and when they returned, the 2015 Ford Explorer was gone, Weigel said.

Officers then attempted to locate the vehicle and ultimately used a GPS device to locate the vehicle traveling east on U.S. Highway 2 near Crookston.

The car was later found crashed after the driver went into the left ditch near the intersection of Highway 75 at 9:22 a.m.

After the car rolled, the driver, identified as Kasandra Ellis, 23, of Columbia, Mo., suffered minor, non-life-threatening injuries.

Ellis is not a student at UND, and alcohol was a factor in the incident, according to a UND news release.

Ellis was booked into the Northwest Regional Corrections Center on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and possession of stolen property.
