WILLISTON, N.D. – A Williston man has been arrested after being accused of stealing a vehicle from a New Town casino after drinking Thursday night and then leading law officers on a high-speed chase reaching more than 100 mph.
Neal Gonzalez, 36, has been charged with DUI, fleeing, driving with a suspended/revoked license and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
The incident began when Mountrail County deputies were in pursuit of a stolen Ford Explorer taken from the casino, where Gonzales was said to have been drinking. The North Dakota Highway Patrol was called in to assist. A trooper spotted the vehicle traveling west on Highway 2 at 105 miles per hour, said the patrol, and activated his lights and siren, but he said Gonzalez did not stop and continued to travel west on Highway 2. The driver continued until the vehicle ran out of gas.
Once stopped, it took about an hour to get Gonzalez out of the car, the patrol said.
