BELCOURT, N.D. — A Belcourt, N.D., man is recovering after being stabbed in the chest with a knife.
Leland Jeanotte says he was watching a movie with his girlfriend Sunday, June 16, when someone broke into his home in Belcourt.
While Jeanotte says he doesn't personally know the man who attacked him, he said the man is his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend.
“Next thing I know I looked up, and he was coming in, and he stabbed me right in the chest,” said Jeanotte. “He said I stole his woman from him. It was jealousy.”
According to the victim's family, the attacker originally got away but has since been apprehended.
Reporter Ken Chase has reached out to the Bureau of Indian Affairs but have not heard back. The Belcourt Police Department refused to comment.
Jeanotte is recovering in a Minot hospital with wounds to his chest and leg.
