A car crashed into an electrical transformer box on Sunday night, causing power outages in south Grand Forks, a press release from police said.

Ronald Palm, 70, was eastbound in a 2013 Toyota Avalon on 32nd Avenue South when he ran off the road and hit the electrical transformer box at the intersection of South 38th Street, the release said.

Power went out to nearby businesses, traffic lights and street lights. Palm was taken to Altru Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

He was cited for driving under the influence and care required while operating a motor vehicle.

Altru Ambulance Services, the fire department, Nodak Electric and city engineering assisted police.
