A Grand Forks man is facing a felony charge after a fight allegedly broke out in the LM Wind Power locker room.
Richard Arthur Powell Jr., 40, could spend up to five years behind bars if convicted of aggravated assault.
An affidavit for his arrest said Urdain Augustin was talking with two other men in the locker room on May 10 around 5 a.m. when he was unexpectedly punched in the back of the head by a bald man with tattoos, later identified as Powell. When Augustin turned around, the affidavit said Powell punched him again.
The two ended up on the ground and Powell began choking Augustin “like he was trying to kill him,” the affidavit said.
Witnesses ran for help when Augustin yelled for help and said he could not breathe, according to the court document. Witnesses told police Augustin did not know Powell and the attack seemed unprovoked.
Powell ran from the building after the fight, according to supervisors. He later told police he did work at LM Wind Power, but denied being involved in the fight.
A warrant was issued for his arrest Wednesday, although he was not yet in jail that afternoon.
