A Grand Forks native who returned to the community two years ago has been promoted at his hometown newspaper.
Adam Kurtz, who has been a reporter focusing on business since coming to the Grand Forks Herald in 2019, now will be the Herald's community editor.
The community editor is a hybrid position, focusing on newsroom initiatives and some management duties while still maintaining a reporting beat. Going forward, Kurtz will report on UND and higher education.
The move was announced by Herald Publisher Korrie Wenzel. Kurtz assumes the role previously held by Sydney Mook, who has been promoted to managing editor. The newspaper is in the process of hiring a reporter whose beat will include local business.
Kurtz is a graduate of Grand Forks Central and UND. He was an English teacher in Japan before returning to Grand Forks in 2019.
