A Garfield, Minn., man was uninjured after his hay truck caught fire outside of Buxton, N.D., Sunday afternoon, July 18.
According to a release from North Dakota Highway Patrol, Ryan Siebel, 41, was driving his pickup and gooseneck trailer loaded with hay southbound on I-29 about 2 miles northeast of Buxton around 2:30 p.m. Sunday when he noticed a wheel come off his truck.
Siebel pulled onto the right shoulder, but the axel was hot and caught the underside of the trailer on fire, spreading to the bales of hay and ditch grass, the release states.
The driver was able to unhitch the trailer and remove the pickup from the scene before it caught fire, according to NDHP. Charges unrelated to the crash are currently pending against Siebel, the release states.
NDHP reports that road conditions were clear and the weather was sunny and hot. Buxton Fire, Reynolds Fire and West Traill Ambulance also responded to the fire.
