A 72-year-old Westhope, N.D., man is dead after a Bottineau County crash Wednesday morning, April 28.
The man's identity will be released after his family has been notified, according to a release from North Dakota Highway Patrol.
The release states that around 8 a.m. Wednesday, the man was driving a John Deere Gator to a farmstead on Bottineau County Road 6, 2 miles west of Westhope.
Cyla McMechan, 18, of Antler, N.D., was traveling behind him in a 2008 GMC Acadia when she allegedly struck him from behind, according to NDHP.
McMechan was reportedly wearing a seatbelt and her airbags deployed. The driver of the Gator and his passenger, 59-year-old David Mason of Westhope, were reportedly not wearing seatbelts.
All three people were transported to Trinity Hospital by ambulance, where the driver of the Gator died, according to NDHP. McMechan was later released from the hospital.
According to the release, weather and road conditions were reportedly good. No charges have been pressed against McMechan, but the crash remains under active investigation by NDHP.
