DUNSEITH, N.D. — A 7-year-old female pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Dunseith on Saturday, April 17.
According to a North Dakota Highway Patrol news release, a driver in a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero was traveling northbound on US Highway 281 at 4:44 p.m. and encountered a group of juvenile pedestrians crossing the roadway from west to east. The driver struck one of the pedestrians, then entered the east ditch and fled the scene.
The juvenile pedestrian, who was from Dunseith in far north central North Dakota, was taken by ambulance to the Quentin N. Burdick Memorial Health Care Facility in Belcourt and was later airlifted to Trinity Hospital in Minot, where she died.
Road conditions at the time were good.
The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
