RUTLAND, N.D. — A Sargent County worker who died after being struck by a vehicle while working on the shoulder of a road on Tuesday, March 26, has been identified as 60-year-old Virgil Nogowski of Gwinner.
Nogowski was a member of a county road department crew placing warning signs on the shoulder of County Road 10, the North Dakota Highway Patrol said in a news release.
According to a highway patrol report, Sharilyn Summers, 54, of Britton, S.D., was driving a 2002 Honda Odyssey northbound on Sargent County Road 10 about 6 miles south of Rutland around 6:30 a.m. when she crashed into a road department pickup parked facing south in the northbound lane.
Summers tried to avoid the crash, turning right toward the eastbound ditch, the Highway Patrol said, striking the front driver's side of the pickup as her vehicle continued into the ditch.
The worker was transported to Lisbon Medical Center where he died. Summers was not injured in the crash.
