3 days before husband’s funeral, central Minnesota woman dies in crash

DEERWOOD, Minn. — A two-vehicle head-on crash killed a 70-year-old Crosby woman Wednesday, March 20, just north of Deerwood.

The Minnesota State Patrol identified the woman as Barbara Jo Blood.

Blood’s death comes less than a week after her husband, John A. Blood, 73, of Crosby, died in Zimmerman, according to his obituary. John Blood’s funeral service was scheduled for Saturday, but it was postponed because of Barbara’s death.

The head-on crash was reported 7:09 a.m. Wednesday. The state patrol reported a Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Timothy D. Kruse, 54, of Crosby, was traveling west on Highway 6 and Blood was driving a Chrysler 300 east on Highway 6 about 18 miles northeast of Brainerd. The Chevrolet crossed over the centerline and struck the Chrysler head on, the state patrol reported.

Kruse was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, where he is in critical condition, a hospital spokesperson stated.

The state patrol reported the road conditions were dry and neither driver was wearing a seat belt. The airbags in both vehicles deployed.

This story has been updated to correct the status of seat belt usage by the drivers.
