Member of snow removal crew dies in Grand Forks

A man working as part of a snow removal crew died early Saturday morning, Feb. 9, in Grand Forks.

Grand Forks police were called to 600 High Plains Court for a report of an injury traffic crash around 3 a.m. on Saturday morning.

The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.

The name of the victim is being withheld so police can notify his family.

Sgt. Kris Brown said it appeared the victim was standing on the bucket of the snow removal vehicle when he slipped off and fell under the wheels of the vehicle.

It is unclear if standing on the front of the vehicle is common practice for snow removal, Brown said, but he wouldn't recommend doing it. Brown said the department is still actively investigating the situation, but there doesn’t appear to have been malicious intent or any criminal activity.

The Grand Forks Police Department urges drivers to slow down on ice and snow and use all proper safety equipment and practice.
