Driver kills 2 in Twin Cities crash after fleeing hit and run, police say
ST. PAUL -- A driver suspected of fleeing the scene of a crash in Minneapolis killed two people in a second crash Friday evening, June 15, police said.
The female driver of a van, who was possibly impaired, struck two telephone poles and a vehicle in an alley in Minneapolis, killing a passenger in the van and a person in the other vehicle, according to police. The woman was arrested and taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Minneapolis police originally responded to a report of a hit and run car crash about 7:52 p.m.
After speaking with the victim of the hit and run, an officer drove in the direction the suspect vehicle was last seen, according to police.
The officer then came across the fatal crash. The van had traveled north in the alley at a high rate of speed, eventually striking the telephone poles and a vehicle that was stopped on the right side of the alley, police said. The van then rolled over.
Another person, in addition to the two fatalities and driver, was injured in the crash.
The names of those involved have not yet been released.
