WINONA, Minn. — Authorities have identified the victim in a fatal car crash Monday, July 15, on U.S. Highway 61 near Winona.
Randy Denton Gunderson, 64, of Holmen, Wis., was killed when his 2014 International semi tractor crossed into the median while northbound on Highway 61, struck a guardrail and then went over the bridge wall into Trout Creek, according to information from the Minnesota State Patrol.
The crash occurred around 4:45 a.m. Monday south of Winona in Richmond Township.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation put out a notice Monday morning that a single-vehicle crash near mile marker 17 at La Moille caused the closure of southbound lanes as well as one lane of northbound Highway 61.
The crash occurred in a construction work zone but no workers were injured, according to MnDOT.
