CROOKSTON Minn. — Emergency crews pulled a girl's body from a submerged SUV in the Red Lake River in downtown Crookston Wednesday evening after responding to a report of a vehicle floating in the water.
Dispatchers first got a report of a vehicle in the river around 4:40 p.m. An officer arrived on the scene and saw a person in the vehicle shortly before it went completely under water, according to a news release from the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
The Crookston Fire Department sent a boat on the river to locate the vehicle and were able to find it with the help of a drone. Divers from the Grand Forks County Water Rescue Unit were later able to locate and retrieve the girl's body from the vehicle.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office said it transported the girl's body to the University of North Dakota medical examiner's office in Grand Forks.
No foul play is suspected, officials said.
An earlier version of this story stated that the driver drove off a bridge. It is presently unclear where the vehicle entered the water.
