Grand Forks Police Officer Cody Holte has been posthumously named the American Legion's Ray Atol Law Enforcement Officer of the Year for North Dakota.
American Legion Post 6 in Grand Forks, which nominated Holte for the award, highlighted the announcement as an honor for Holte's memory, his loved ones and his colleagues at the North Dakota National Guard and the Grand Forks Police Department.
Holte, 29, died by gunfire on May 27, 2020, while responding to a call for assistance from sheriff's deputies involved in a shooting in a Grand Forks apartment. Holte is survived by a wife and young son.
The American Legion will present the award at the Grand Forks Veterans Memorial Park at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 19.
