Representatives of the Sugar Association and American Sugarbeet Growers Association will not speak at this year’s International Sugarbeet Institute because of their companies’ travel restrictions related to concerns about coronavirus .

Courtney Gaine, Sugar Association president and CEO, was scheduled to speak at the International Sugarbeet Institute at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks on Wednesday, March 11, and Scott Herndon, ASGA vice president and general counsel, was scheduled to speak Thursday. Both organizations have headquarters in Washington, D.C.

“A lot of our members are on travel restrictions, so we’re following the protocol from them,” said Andy Fiske, SGA vice president of operations.

Gaine and Herndon will, however, give their talks via pre-recorded presentations, Fiske said Tuesday..

“Both are working on recording their presentation to submit to the Institute so they can play them,” he said.
