A Thief River Falls man was struck by a vehicle Sunday on Polk County Road 21, about 5 miles east of U.S. Highway 75.

When responders arrived to the scene of the crash they found Zachary Foley, 23, of Thief River Falls lying on the side of the road near 240th Avenue Southwest, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office. Officers determined Foley was hit by a vehicle driven by Joshua Melgaard, 38, of Thief River Falls after Foley had pulled over to check on a vehicle with its hazard lights on, according to a news release.

The sheriff's office said it doesn't know Foley's condition. Responders transported him to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks for evaluation and treatment.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office is still investigating the incident. A news release on Monday said the office believes poor weather and road conditions were partially responsible.
