Altru reveals top baby names for 2017

The names Oliver and Emma top the list of most popular names given to babies born at Altru Hospital in 2017, the health system has announced.

For boys, the next most popular names are Easton, Noah, Liam, Asher, Carter, Henry, Jaxton, Logan and Dakota.

For girls, the next most popular names are Paisley, Ava, Hazel, Layla, Scarlett, Sophia, Amelia, Eleanor and Everly.

Area parents who chose Emma for their newborn in 2017 followed a national trend. That name has been among the most popular names for girls the past three years, according to BabyCenter, a website devoted to parenting and pregnancy topics. This year, Emma ranks third nationally; Sophia and Olivia ranked first and second, respectively. Emma was followed by Ava, Isabella, Mia, Aria, Riley, Zoe and Amelia.

Sophia has topped the website's list of most popular names for girls for eight consecutive years.

In the U.S., the top three most popular names for boys, according to, are Jackson, Liam and Noah, followed by Aiden, Lucas, Caden, Grayson, Mason, Elijah and Logan.
