A Grand Forks man and a passenger in his car were treated for injuries after he drove into a house Tuesday evening.

According to Grand Forks Police, Goma Jogi, 34, was traveling north about 6:25 p.m. on South 12th St. and was about to turn west when he tried to stop at Eighth Avenue South. Instead of slowing his 2012 Toyota Camry, he pressed this accelerator, causing the car to leave the road and strike a house at the intersection.

Jogi and a male passenger were taken by ambulance to Altru Hospital, but the extent of their injuries was unclear. The house was occupied at the time of the crash, but no one inside was injured, police said. Significant damage was caused to the foundation of the house.

Jogi was cited for failure to have a vehicle under control, according a police news statement.

The Grand Forks Fire Department and Altru Ambulance also responded to the crash.

The incident is under investigation, and witnesses are asked to contact police at (701) 787-8000.
