WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D. launched a new podcast called "The Hotdish" on Wednesday, interviewing anti-human trafficking leader Cindy McCain and WDAY-TV reporter Kevin Wallevand - who has covered human trafficking in North Dakota - to talk about the issue at the local, national and international level.

Heitkamp's first podcast focuses in part on Backpage, a website that has played a major role in human trafficking. During the podcast Heitkamp and McCain briefly mention a human trafficking sting that resulted in more than 10 arrests in Dickinson in November 2013.

Heitkamp has been on other senators' podcasts before, including Inside Maine which is hosted by Maine Sen. Angus King. There she talked about veterans' issues. This experience, in part, helped to inspire Heitkamp to start "The Hotdish."

The podcast is available on SoundCloud and on Heitkamp's U.S. Senate website and runs about 25 minutes long. She intends to do more podcasts to raise awareness about other key North Dakota issues, but did not say what issues she would likely tackle or when those podcasts would be released.
