MOORHEAD – A driver was able to walk away with only minor injuries after his car was hit by a train.
Moorhead police say around 7 p.m. Monday a car was heading south on 21st Street South and Main Avenue. The driver tried to make a right turn, went through stop lights and was hit by the train.
Police say this crash likely could have been avoided.
"You can't always assume a train is going to be coming from one direction on the tracks. You have to be looking all around you and if the lights are flashing, you have to stop," Moorhead Police Sgt. Toby Krone said.
The car had substantial damage. Police say they're investigating whether the driver will face charges for the crash and have not released the driver's name.
