PEOPLE IN THE ARTS: GF native Molly Prout works in East Coast music theater
Grand Forks native Molly Prout has taken the stage experience she began honing in area shows and as a pageant winner to her work as an actress, singer and dancer in musical theater in New York City and Boston.
Currently, Prout is performing in "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" with Foothills Theater in the Boston area. She plays a working girl named Dawn, she said, and expects the show to run through April 5.
For the past two summers, Prout has performed with the College Light Opera Company. Recently, she performed a leading role in the premiere of a new musical called "Troll La La," a show that could be picked up by producers.
Some of her other recent roles have been Paquette in "Candide," Claudine in "Can Can" and Fruma Sara in "Fiddler on the Roof."
Prout grew up in Grand Forks, graduating from Red River High School in 2003. She was active in music and theater at Red River, in Summer Performing Arts and Crimson Creek.
She also won the titles of Miss Teen North Dakota (part of the Miss America program) and North Dakota's Junior Miss. She was part of the cast of the Medora (N.D.) Musical.
She attended the University of Nevada Las Vegas, graduating in December 2007.
