CROOKSTON: Wal-Mart opens to public Wednesday
The Wal-Mart Supercenter in Crookston will open its doors to the public Wednesday.
There will be a grand opening celebration at 7:30 a.m. Crookston Mayor Dave Genereux and Crookston Chamber of Commerce President Lori Wagner will join Store Manager Seth Elston and Wal-Mart associates in the official ribbon-cutting ceremony. The public is invited to share in the celebration.
Preview tours of the store were provided at an invitation-only open house for Crookston community leaders, Wal-Mart associates and their families on Monday night.
More than $33,250 in grants were presented Monday to representatives of 10 area organizations. The organizations are: North County Food Bank Inc., City of Crookston Parks and Recreation, Crookston Public School District, City of Crookston Public Library, Riverview Healthcare Foundation Inc., City of Crookston Fire Department, City of Crookston Police Department, Crookston Area Seniors Association Inc., Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota and Crookston Chamber of Commerce.
"Since we're coming into the community, it's nice to help out the area organizations," said Elston. "We want to be a pillar in the community and help show our support for these groups."
The 99,625-square-foot store is located at 1902 Sahlstrom Drive. It will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The store will feature a full line of groceries, bakery goods, deli foods, frozen foods, meat and dairy products, fresh produce, beer and wine, apparel and accessories, fine jewelry, a lawn and garden center, health and beauty aids, a full line of electronics, one-hour photo lab, pharmacy and Wal-Mart Connection Center for cell phone sales.
"The Supercenter will be another great shopping opportunity for people in this area," Elston said.
The store also has eight full-service and six express check-out lines, as well as an environmentally friendly design using skylights and energy saving lighting.
The store will employ approximately 225 people, the majority full time.
