Walk-in flu shot clinic Sept. 21 in Polk County

A walk-in clinic offering a limited number of flu shots for children will be available through the Polk County Public Health office Sept. 21 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The vaccine is available only to children between the ages of 6 months and 19 years-old, the office said in a news release.

Flu shot recipients must qualify for the Minnesota Vaccine for Children Program. Children are required to be uninsured, covered by medical assistance or another Minnesota health care program or be American Indian or an Alaskan native.

Children can be considered uninsured because insurance does not cover vaccine, only covers selected vaccines, has a cap on insurance coverage or the deductible has not been met.

According to the office, only the injection is currently available. Those requesting the nasal vaccine must call first to be sure it is available.

The cost of the vaccine is free, but PCPH requests $5 to cover administration costs.
