The Grand Forks Park District will host its annual Summerthing-Kids! event from 5 to 8 p.m. today and Thursday at University Park.
This free artistic celebration for kids of all ages has a history of drawing thousands of residents from Grand Forks and the surrounding communities. This year it has a new feature as well: The showing of a free movie in the park tonight at dusk.
The festival will have a variety of family entertainment, from building to painting crafts to games galore and face painting. Kids are welcome to take home the works of art they create. There also will be food vendors, games and live musical entertainment.
The movie, "Kung Fu Panda 2" (90 minutes, rated PG), will be shown on a huge inflatable screen, presented by the Park District along with Al's Grill. Al's will be selling sloppy joes, chips and a drink for $1. Bring your own lawn chair or blanket for seating.
This is the first of three movie nights the Park District will host this summer. The next show under the stars, "Cars 2," will begin at sundown July 31 at Lincoln Drive Park after the Family Fun Night event. Texas Roadhouse will co-host and provide food for purchase. The last movie, "The Lorax," will be at sundown Aug. 16 presented by HB Sound & Light and the Park District.
