The Altru Family YMCA has launched a fundraising campaign for its Partner of Youth Scholarship Program, which provides financial assistance to allow youth, families and individuals to participate in the Y’s programs and services.
Through scholarships, assistance is provided, within the limits of available funding, for programs, child care and memberships, said Bob McWilliams, the YMCA's CEO. Scholarships are given for swim lessons, youth and adult sports, day camp and adult wellness programs.
"No one is turned away due to lack of financial resources,” McWilliams said.
The goal for this year’s campaign is $50,000 to meet the need, he said.
“Every year it grows a little," he said.
Major fundraising activities will continue through Aug. 15, but the campaign is ongoing throughout the year.
These activities, as well as annual events such as the Firecracker Road Run/Walk on July 4 and the golf tournament in September, help to fund the scholarship program.
In 2018, the Altru Family YMCA provided assistance to more than 3,000 youth and families in the Grand Forks area, as part of its commitment to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living, fostering a sense of social responsibility and strengthening the community, he said.
