Kettle kickoff

The Salvation Army's annual Christmas Bell Ringing Campaign kicks off today at 5:30 p.m. in the parking lot near Scheel's and Hugo's on South Columbia Road and 13th Avenue South in Grand Forks.

Refreshments will be served and the public is encouraged to attend.

Valley Health grant

Valley Health recently received a $6,200 grant from the North Dakota Cancer Coalition, announced Executive Director Janet Betting on Thursday.

The funds will be used to implement cervical cancer prevention by providing local education to high school and college students, as well as offering the Gardasil vaccination free to those who qualify.

No detour for Kenny Rogers

People driving to the Kenny Rogers concert at Spirit Lake Casino today should experience no traffic delays along N.D. Highway 20 south of Devils Lake.

The North Dakota Department of Transportation announced that the road, which is under reconstruction, will be open to two-lane traffic between 5 and 8 p.m., in an effort to help with traffic flow to the sold-out concert, which begins at 8 p.m.

Pilot cars will resume work at 8 p.m., when a portion of the highway near the entrance to Camp Grafton will be one-lane only.

EGF library holiday schedule

East Grand Forks Campbell Library will be closed Thanksgiving day.

The library will be open until noon Dec. 24 and closed Dec. 25; open until noon Dec. 31 and closed Jan. 1.

The library's last Story Time for 2010 will be 10 a.m. Dec. 8. Story Time will resume Jan. 4 with regular Tuesday and Wednesday groups at 10 a.m. and a Thursday group at 7 p.m.

Climate and energy conference

The Grand Forks Energy Alliance and the city of Grand Forks will host the first ever North Dakota National Innovations in Climate and Energy workshop and conference Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 in the Alerus Center.

According to a news release, the event will focus on energy efficiency and will highlight energy incentive programs, regulatory policies, building codes and financing options. Speakers include representatives from the North Dakota Department of Commerce, Great Plains Institute and the North Dakota Public Service Commission.

The conference will focus on energy efficiency programs and policies.
