With careful attention to precautions during these days of coronavirus, employees at the Blue Moose restaurant in East Grand Forks believe business is getting better.

If a customer comes in without a mask, there is an extra one waiting at the entry. Servers say it sets a reassuring tone.

The walleye sandwich, gorgonzola salad and soup were among lunch choices this week. My companions were Mary Loyland and Don Berntson. Like many Moose customers, they know the menu well. They prefer lunch time, which we found to be well organized. There is required spacing between booths that can be occupied. And our server, who is better than average, was Jackie Delgado.

The restaurant, with its lounge area, seems to offer a feeling of safety. Leslie Widner, of Stephen, Minn., said she likes the large seating area at “the Moose” and the fact that masks are available at the entry.

Along with other restaurants in these days of precaution against coronavirus, the Blue Moose offers delivery service. It is done mostly by Door Dash and Bite Squad.

The newspaper-style menu makes it easy for diners to find their choices at the Moose. There are sections for small plates, pasta and salads. Burgers, wraps and sandwiches are featured. Entrees include steak, chicken, pork and seafood.

Among choices is a flat iron steak ($18) with a specially seasoned coffee rub. A half rack of Norwegian barbecued ribs is $18.

During summer months, there is seating on the outdoor deck overlooking the Red River and downtown Grand Forks. During the winter, large groups, when allowed, prefer seating in an upper level dining room.

The Blue Moose was born in East Grand Forks in 1994. It was a victim of the Flood of 1997 and courageously rebuilt in its present location.
