New mosque opens in East Grand Forks
The Liberty Lanes building in East Grand Forks is under new ownership. The local Muslim community has bought the building and turned it into a mosque.
Mustafe Farah and several others bought the building at 1700 5th Ave. NE and turned it into the East Grand Forks Islamic Center. The East Grand Forks Islamic Center worships every second Friday of the month.
The group built spots inside the former bowling alley to pray.
“A lot of people in the community don’t know we’re here,” Farah said.
The group currently is trying to raise money for a carpet, bathrooms and washing area. The group is raising funds through their Facebook page, “EGFIC.”
