A new Miss Grand Forks will be crowned this weekend at the annual pageant.
Contestants from Minnesota and North Dakota will compete for the titles of Miss Grand Forks, Miss Empire and Miss Grand Cities at the pageant held 4 p.m. Saturday at the Empire Arts Center. Tickets are $10 at the door.
The three local title-holders will advance to the Miss North Dakota Scholarship Pageant in June. From there, the winner of the Miss North Dakota Pageant will represent the state of North Dakota at the Miss America Pageant.
The pageant will feature a private interview, swimsuit competition, a talent portion, evening gown competition and on-stage questions.
Nicole Kringstad, executive director for the pageant, said the winner of the pageant would have qualities that best represent Grand Forks, such as someone who has a good talent and answers on-stage questions well.
“Overall, we’re looking for someone who is confident in what they do and how they do it,” she said.
This year the pageant has added the Z 94.7 People’s Choice Award Voting. For a $1 donation, people can vote for their favorite contestant. Money raised from the people’s choice vote will go toward the Miss Grand Forks Scholarship Fund.

Kringstad said pageants like this one remain popular in the area because of the scholarship money given to the contestants.
“The pageant is a great opportunity for many young women in the community,” she said.
