An East Grand Forks Senior High School student will speak Tuesday at a press conference in Washington, D.C., to urge Congress to pass legislation that would push states to adopt graduated driver licensing laws for teenage drivers across the country.
Kaylen Larson is among the eight people who will discuss passing this legislation at today's press conference. Larson serves as state vice president of MN Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America and also is a member of the National Organization for Youth Safety Teen Distracted Driving Prevention Leadership Team.
Speakers at the conference will urge Congress to pass the Safe Teen and Novice Drive Uniform Protection Act, which would help push states to enact graduated license laws in 2011.
Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety, a national alliance of consumer, health and safety groups and insurance companies, said in a news release that nearly 4,000 American teens are expected to die in automotive crashes in the next year.
