The crab cakes were excellent, as was the ribeye steak. My grandson, Jack Golden, made quick work of a New York strip steak. There were five of us enjoying a family gathering following the close of the North Dakota bar convention here.
The meal we anticipated at Sky’s was all we had hoped for – right though the appetizers to some tasting of cappuccino cheesecake and crème caramel desserts
The large dining room allows a pleasant space between tables. There was a choice of seating on a fairly quiet evening in summer. Our server, Haley, has been on the staff at Sky’s for two years.
While there is service from the regular dining menu on Thursdays, there also are special offerings in the lounge. Among them is a smoked pork shoulder sandwich served with rosemary garlic French fries and coleslaw with homemade barbecue sauces.
The housemade barbecue sauces are Kanas City Chipotle, which is mildly spice red sauce; South Carolina with a sweet, mustard base; and the 1907 is the classic Sanders barbecue with a hint of curry.

Sky’s lounge menu offers a Reuben sandwich, a smokehouse burger and a patty melt. There are lahvosh offerings including jerk chicken and veggie. Then there is a veggie creation with artichokes, roasted peppers, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms and basil oil with Havarti and parmesan cheeses.
While the lounge draws interest especially in summer, the entrees at Sky’s are fairly constant. There is a choice of filet mignon, seared scallops, New York strip, herb crusted prime rib, rack of lamb, grilled Faroe Islands salmon, pan-fried walleye, Voodoo pasta, pasta primavera, vegan-friendly vegetarian plate and 1907 roast Caraway duck.

Report card: Regarded as fine dining, Sky’s offers large dining area with windows looking out over business district in downtown Grand Forks. Second floor seating is reached by elevator or escalator. Since its move from Third Street to the second floor of Edgewood Corporate Plaza at Fourth and DeMers Avenue, Sky’s Fine Dining has continued as a key dining destination in Greater Grand Forks.
