Eatbeat: Grand Forks' Red Lobster seems to have endless seafood options

On two recent visits to the Lobster, the seating was pleasant with windows all around. The entryway is inviting and interesting with lobsters swimming in a tank. At lunch time, guests are seated in an area near the east windows of the large restaurant.

With seating for 180, the Red Lobster is seeing more guests coming inside the restaurant. And Briggite Ulke, the manager, says the trend for home delivery has grown during these times of coronavirus.

“People are seeing how easy it is to eat out at home,” she said. Popular choices are shrimp and crab.

Crab legs were rated excellent on a Mother’s Day visit to the Red Lobster. While I usually settle for viewing lobster in the entry room tank, I ordered it for dinner. And it was, indeed, a long forgotten treat.

Tables all around were filled with families on the special day.

On an earlier lunch time visit to the Red Lobster, my choice was lobster bisque – good enough with coconut shrimp.

Red Lobster has been a part of the south end shopping area in Grand Forks for 30 years. It has an easy, relaxing ambience with the pleasant entry room. Servers accompany guests to their tables. And on recent visits, the staff been friendly and helpful.

The menu at the Red Lobster is pleasing. Instead of a heavy, leather covered book customers get a large sheet of paper. It lists daily deals such as endless shrimp on Monday. There’s steak and lobster on Wednesday. Customers can see at a glance, the suggestions for the day.

The most expensive item I noticed on the menu was Lobster Lover’s dream ($35.99). This is described as a roasted rock lobster tail, butter-poached Maine lobster tail and lobster-and-shrimp linguine in a creamy lobster sauce. The cost is $35.99. And it adds up to 1730 calories
