VALLEY SOUND: Britney Spears' concert lost $96,000, but made $1.9 million

The Herald reported today that the Britney Spears concert Sept. 12 had a direct economic impact of $1.9 million in the region. But it also didn't break even in actual costs - so the Alerus Center by itself lost about $96,000 on the event. With these figures in mind, did the Alerus Center deliver on its promise to deliver a big-name event to our region and bring in outside money? Or will residents see it as another costly concert that taxpayers paid for?
