The UND Department of Theatre Arts will present a spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at UND Burtness Theatre, a showcase of choreography created by students in the department's new dance minor program.
Six UND students have choreographed works for the concert, which will feature performers from local dance studios and across the region. The choreographers are Hannah Halvorson, Thompson, N.D.; Jackie O'Neil and Becky Bjorg, Grand Forks; Alycia Olson, Bismarck; Morgan London, Ellsworth, Wis.; and Katya Bryleva, Tula, Russia.
UND Assistant Professor of Dance Lon Hurst described the dances as abstract pieces without a linear story, with movements informed by an overall theme or motivation.
"This concert is different aesthetically to the more popular dance forms we see today, but there is some crossover," Hurst said. The concert will feature several group numbers and some solos.
The dance minor is part of the UND Department of Theatre Arts, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary of educational theatre. Tickets will be $6 for students and $12 for adults, and are available at Burtness Theatre box office, (701) 777-2587, or at the door.
