The two Blockbuster movie rental stores in Grand Forks will remain open and their operations will not be impacted by the recent bankruptcy filing of Dallas-based parent company Blockbuster Corp.

Kevin Seeger, managing partner of Blockbuster's two Grand Forks franchises, says the local stores are doing well financially and will remain open.

"The financial challenges of BLOCKBUSTER Corporation will have no impact on our local operation," Seeger wrote in a prepared statement released this morning. "Our business is on firm footing. As an independent company, we are not tied to the financial performance of the corporation. While we have every confidence that BLOCKBUSTER Corporation will weather this storm and emerge from bankruptcy stronger than before, it's business as usual here in Grand Forks; our team looks forward to continuing to serve our local area customers and our community as always."

Blockbuster Corp. is a leading global provider of movie and game entertainment rentals. The company has more than 3,200 stores worldwide.
